Many are from Lillian Snyder's Blue Jay Note Book, and many more are from neighbors and friends. Very old recipes are used as written.

Recipes were received over a period of time, and those too late to classify were included in Miscellaneous or put in any available space. They were too good to leave out.

Who Were the Icarians?

The Icarians were the followers of the philosophy and writings of Etienne Cabet. Cabet, born in Dijon, France in 1788, was a lawyer, teacher, public official and journalist. He wrote a novel, VOYAGE EN ICARIE, in which he described a social organization which he believed would bring peace, justice, equality and brotherhood to the world. Forced to leave France because of his political beliefs, Cabet and his followers came to the United States.

The Icarian Colonies survived fifty years, longer than most of the 450 utopian experiments in the United States during the 19th century. In 1977, led by Dr. Lillian Snyder, the descendents of the original Icarians organized the National Icarian Heritage Society.

----

Condition: Cover, interior pages and spiral are in very nice condition.
